I have definitely been
reading the New York Times more since this quarter has began. In the past, I would
only read the New York Times for two reasons: for school assignments or when
there is a really big story. In both of those cases, I would have an idea in
mind of what type of stories I would be looking for. Reading it on a daily
basis for this course has made me aware of the abundant quantities of stories
released each day.
Before, I dreaded
reading newspapers because I didn't know how to read a newspaper. It took me a
lot of time to locate the article I wanted to read. Now, I would skim the
headlines for anything that interests me. I even enjoy reading the actual paper
although it still stains my fingers. With the practice of reading the New York Times,
I find interesting stories quickly so each day I have a better idea on how to
navigate the paper because I know what to expect.
Lately, I have noticed
a lot in the news about gun control. The country entered a state of shock since
the elementary school shooting in Connecticut and guns have made a more
prevalent presence in the news since. Also, Obama’s actions and decision since
his re-election have been monitored by the media very strictly.
Some stories I may miss
in the news are the stories in the business and sports sections. I don’t read
them as much because I avoid them intentionally. I am not interested in business
and most sports because I don’t understand them.
